Taxability of 2011 SAFE Distributions & SABT Benefits

We once again are pleased to report that beneficiaries (shareholders) will NOT have to pay federal income tax on distributions received from the Shee Atiká Fund Endowment (SAFE) in 2011. You will not be receiving any forms from us and there is nothing to report on your 2011 federal income tax return. SAFE has more than enough accumulated taxable income to cover the amount distributed, making distributions non-taxable at the individual level.

Shee Atika Benefits Trust (SABT) scholarship and funeral benefits are non-taxable based on the information we have presently. You will not be receiving any form from us and there is nothing to report on your 2011 federal income tax return, unless Shee Atiká advises you otherwise.

Please feel free to call or email me or our Controller, Ptarmica McConnell with any questions (or have your tax preparer call). The tax issues regarding whether distributions are taxable relate to the Section 646 election for ANCSA settlement trusts that we made several years ago for both SAFE and SABT. This mechanism is too complex to go into here, but we would be happy to provide additional information upon request.

Sincerely,

Dr. Kenneth Cameron

President & CEO and

Chairman of the Board

Joshua Horan (31), 415 Hollywood Way, Sitka, AK 99835. Josh works at Horan and Company, LLC, as a real estate appraiser. He has been on the Board since 2010. Prior to joining the Board of Directors, Josh was a member of the Scholarship Committee of the Shee Atiká Benefits Trust (SABT) for several years. Josh is the son of Charles and Christine (Gutierrez) Horan.

Candidate Statement: “I am proudly serving as a director of Shee Atiká and I am asking that you vote to return me to the Board of Directors. My Tlingit name is Yoowaak’ Eesh. I am a Raven from the T’akdeintaan (Sea Pigeon) clan, Snail House. My grandparents are Rocky and Betty Lou Gutierrez. My great great grandfather William Hollywood was Kiks’adi, and my great great grandmother Natalia Dalton was T’akdeintaan. Their daughter Louise Hollywood Elliott was my great grandmother. The future of our corporation and all our shareholders matters to me a great deal and I find being a steward of our shareholders’ resources challenging and satisfying. As a recipient of Shee Atiká scholarships and as a member of the SABT Scholarship Committee, I have seen first hand how empowering Shee Atiká’s resources are for our shareholders. This empowerment leads to an increase in quality of life that is thrilling to witness and enriches not only our shareholders but also the communities in which they live. As a member of the Shee Atiká Board I will work to ensure that those resources continue to remain available for our ever-expanding shareholder base. Thank you for your support.”

Shirley Yocum adds this about Josh:
“Josh has been doing very well and catching up as fast as he can. He works with the rest of the Board very well and will be a great addition to the Board with the help of our shareholders.”

Candidate Statement: “I am Harold Donnelly, Jr., although many of you know me as Bunny Donnelly. I am an Eagle from the Kogwanton clan. My house is the Bear House, and my Tlingit name is Skowish – Bearclaw. My parents are Florence Donnelly (Eagle) and the late Harold L. Donnelly, Sr. (Raven). I am asking for your support to reelect me to the Board of Directors. I would like to continue as a Board member so that I can work to increase our permanent fund, which is the Shee Atiká Fund Endowment (SAFE). This will allow us to increase the SAFE distributions over time as we build up the permanent fund. I also feel that my experience as a former Forest Service employee will be very helpful as the Board works to maximize value for Cube Cove. Thank you.”

Candidate Statement: “My name is Shirley I. Yocum. I am Athabascan. I did not live at home long enough to receive an Athabascan name. My father James Bruce is Kutchin from Old Crow, Canada. His people are dependent on moose, caribou, bear, goat and sheep. My mother is Elsie N. Huntington James. She is Koyukuk from Hughes. They are hunters, fishermen, and gatherers. I have two children, Mitch Widick and Jensen Yocum. Jensen has two children George and Elsie. His wife is Amanda Baggen. I have spent most of my life in Sitka. I went to Mt. Edgecumbe School of Practical Nursing program and spent 25 years as an LPN. My other experiences are in the areas of planning, TERO for Sitka Tribe of Alaska and as a Bar Manager for the American Legion. I joined ANS Camp 4 in 1987. As I ask for your support this year, Shee Atiká has accomplished much for the shareholders in the past 20 years. I have been fortunate to serve as your director during this time. I look forward to the next three years. We still have to look to the future to ensure our grandchildren and future shareholders have better access to funding for education. We need to protect our culture and heritage. We have to protect the scholarship funding and that of the distributions. Please re-elect me to the board. Thank You, Shirley.”

PLEASE VOTE FOR JOSH, BUNNY AND SHIRLEY!
