Kenneth M. Cameron

Kenneth M. Cameron practiced medical dentistry in Sitka for a number of years and is presently the President/CEO and Chairman of the Board of the Corporation.  He served on the Shee Atiká Board from 1986 to 1993 and from 2000 to present.  During 1986 to 1993, he was instrumental in the sales of Shee Atiká’s timber and NOLs that helped secure Shee Atiká’s future.  

Gillian Havrilla

Gillian Havrilla is a Legal Administrator for the law firm of Russell Wagg Gabbert & Budzinski, and is responsible for the overall operation of the firm, personnel administration, and administering the firm’s pension and profit sharing plan.  In addition, Gillian has general responsibility for financial planning and controls, and identifies and plans for the changing needs of the firm.

Loretta Ness

Loretta Ness has served as a Shee Atiká director since 1991, including as Treasurer and Vice Chair-Chairman of the Board, and is presently Corporate Secretary.  She also served two years as the Director of Atikon Forest Products, Inc. and has been a member of the Art Committee of Shee Atiká’s Board.  She has owned and operated two businesses for 30 years.

On Saturday, March 10th, the Greater Sitka Chamber of Commerce held its Annual Chamber Banquet.  Each year, awards are given out to businesses for the Business of the Year, the New Business of the Year, and the Cossack Cap.

At this year’s event, the Dock Shack Cafe was awarded the New Business of the Year award.  This award was established to honor an outstanding NEW business in Sitka, and to recognize its merits and contributions to the local business community. 

The Dock Shack Cafe was opened on June 21, 2011.  The Board and Staff continue to make improvements and strive to ensure great customer service and high quality food at reasonable prices.  The Dock Shack employees have been one of the reasons for its success.  Of course, the customers that stop by for a meal are also just as important.

Shee Atika, Incorporated and the Dock Shack Cafe are very appreciative of the Greater Sitka Chamber of Commerce New Business of the Year award.

Taxability of 2011 SAFE Distributions & SABT Benefits

We once again are pleased to report that beneficiaries (shareholders) will NOT have to pay federal income tax on distributions received from the Shee Atiká Fund Endowment (SAFE) in 2011.  You will not be receiving any forms from us and there is nothing to report on your 2011 federal income tax return.  SAFE has more than enough accumulated taxable income to cover the amount distributed, making distributions non-taxable at the individual level.

Shee Atika Benefits Trust (SABT) scholarship and funeral benefits are non-taxable based on the information we have presently.  You will not be receiving any form from us and there is nothing to report on your 2011 federal income tax return, unless Shee Atiká advises you otherwise.

Please feel free to call or email me or our Controller, Ptarmica McConnell with any questions (or have your tax preparer call).  The tax issues regarding whether distributions are taxable relate to the Section 646 election for ANCSA settlement trusts that we made several years ago for both SAFE and SABT.  This mechanism is too complex to go into here, but we would be happy to provide additional information upon request.
