Loretta Ness

Loretta’s Tlingít name is K’anootl’i. Her moiety is Raven/Coho of the L’uknax.ádi clan. She is the daughter of the late Charlie & Annie Joseph and the sister of Lillian Morrison (deceased), Annie McGraw (deceased), Charlie Joseph Jr. (deceased), Jacob Joseph (deceased), Ethel Makinen, William John Joseph (deceased), Esther James and Wilma Bacon.

Loretta has owned and operated two businesses, along with her late husband Patrick, for over twenty years. Her children are David and Roger Ness, and her grandchildren are Roger Ness, Jr., Rebekah Ness, Robert Ness, and Sydney Ness. She graduated from Sitka High School and attended many classes for secretarial, accounting and business. She is a proud member of the Russian Orthodox faith.

Loretta has served on the Board of Directors since 1991 and is currently the Secretary. She has spent a great amount of time studying and researching to prepare herself as your director. She believes that we have one of the strongest, well-diversified and educated boards of the ANCSA corporations. Loretta considers it an honor to be working for you, the shareholders, as a board member. “Our corporation’s investment in education will brighten our future for the number of shareholders that have taken the opportunity to further their education. When the financial burden is removed from the young, look where they can go and what they can achieve with education. Our great grandchildren will accomplish still more! Not just in the betterment of themselves, but as Indian people as a whole. It is possible to accept the worth of other cultures without abandoning your own — ýei yatee (That’s the way it is).” Mrs. Ness’ term will come up for re-election in 2012.
